At their special media event in California Theatre in San Jose, CA, Apple unveiled the new iMac (2012) with an all new design, same screen sizes (21 and 27 inches), new specs, and lots more. Details after the jump!
Although Apple's range of computers ship with set hardware specifications as standard, consumers can configure a more personalized setup thanks to the Cupertino company's built-to-order service. For example, the MacBook Pro with Retina display costs $2,799.00 over at Apple's online store, but if one wishes to bump up the storage space, processor speed or RAM, for example, this can be arranged at additional cost.
According to a report over at the hit-and-miss DigiTimes, a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display - along with updated spec iMacs - are shipping to Apple's upstream supply chain. DigiTimes has, as is often the case, latched onto the story via sources from within said supply chain, and reports the 13.3" MacBook Pro with Retina display should be upon us within the next six weeks.
According to Fox, Apple is planning to release a refreshed batch of its iMac desktop computer in time for Christmas, and the news and entertainment giant's Clayton Morris reckons the new iMacs could launch as soon as next week. He also speculates Apple could instead drop the new iMacs range at next month's special event for the iPad Mini, but reckons they'll be available in time for the all-important holiday season.
A report surfacing from the famously hit-and-miss DigiTimes claims Apple is preparing to release a Retina-displaying iMac as early as October. Consumers were dazzled by the sharp display of the MacBook Pro with Retina display unveiled at WWDC this year, and although natural progression suggests the rest of the line-up will follow suit, most presumed we would be waiting until at least early next year.
The limelight during yesterday's WWDC keynote was hogged almost entirely by the MacBook range, in particular, the brand-new, Retina display MacBook Pro. With the four-year wait for Mac Pro enhancements bringing only incremental improvements at best, you could have been forgiven that Apple was distancing itself from the desktop in favor of the notebook.
Tying in rather nicely with the reports of an imminent Retina display-toting 15-inch MacBook Pro, it has also been revealed that the next installment to the iMac series could also pack in the pixels, bringing the super-sharp screen we've grown to love on the iPhone and iPad.
With so much interest in Apple as a company and in their product ranges, it really shouldn't come as a surprise anymore that new introductions and range refreshes can't really sneak in under the radar. With that said, the latest Apple rumor relates to their iMac range and focuses on the speculation that the company could be introducing the Ivy Bridge powered machines in June or July of this year.
