Earlier on this month, Riley Testut – lead developer of the popular, jailbreak-free GBA4iOS emulator – announced via Twitter that he had taken the emulator after a DMCA complaint from Nintendo. At the time, Testut removed download links as well as the GitHub page, but also, hinted that it perhaps wasn’t the end of the road. Clearly, he was already making moves to reinstate GBA4iOS, and having apparently modified the emulator in compliance with Nintendo’s quibbles, those interested in playing old Game Boy Advance titles can dive right in once more.

The popular emulator GBA4iOS, which allows those running on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to relive the days of the standalone Nintendo mobile consoles by running old Game Boy Advance ROMs, has thrived since its release a couple of months back. But the company behind the famed gaming machine has brought the fun to an abrupt end by sending a DMCA take-down request to the emulator’s author, and for now, the GitHub repository and website are both down “until further notice.”

The quality of mobile gaming is definitely improving, but some of us are old enough to remember the excitement that Nintendo’s original Entertainment System (NES) and Game Boy brought into our lives. We’ve seen emulators galore being released over the last few weeks that bring the pleasure of the old school Nintendo experience to our iOS and Android devices, meaning that it shouldn’t really come as a shock that a new Game Boy emulator from Ben Midi has appeared for iOS, Android and Windows users.
