Sonos’ And Ikea’s Picture Frame Speaker Announced For $199

Ikea and Sonos have announced the latest product to land in the Symfonisk line and it’s a stunner. The new $199 picture frame s[weaker will go on sale on July 15 and you’ll be able to add your own images to it, making this a truly customizable speaker.

The front art can be removed, leaving the speaker innards visible. It looks like a speaker, just as you’d expect, but it’s the art on the outside that makes things interesting.

You’ll be able to pick from various styles created by artist Jennifer Idrizi, although the particular styles might differ depending on which part of the world you’re in.

Because this is a WiFi speaker there is no cable for a data connection, but you do still need to power it.

The cable can be routed out of the speaker in a few different ways so as to offer maximum flexibility for those who need to reach far-flung sockets. The speaker also comes with feet so it can be put on the floor, should that be your cup of tea.

It’s fair to say that the art aspect looks pretty sweet, but we’ll need to hear how these speakers sound before we can say whether they’re a good buy or not. At $199 they aren’t cheap, although they aren’t expensive either. Again, it’s all about that sound. AirPlay 2 is supported, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get audio into these things.

With the speaker going on sale on sale next month we might have to wait a while before we find out how good these things really are.
