Rivian Announces The R2, R3, And R3X Built On A Midsize Platform

Electric vehicle maker Rivian has announced two new product lines and three new vehicles, all based on a new midsize platform. The three vehicles were announced at an event yesterday and provide new options for those looking to get into an EV.

The R2 is a shape that will immediately appear to be a Rivian and features a powered rear glass that fully drops into the tailgate so that drivers can pack a variety of different cargo.

The interior, Rivian says, is all about ease of use with premium and sustainable materials used throughout. The R2 also packs first and second-row seating that folds completely flat which makes the vehicle an option for a variety of applications.

The R3 is a new midsize crossover that promises off-road capability as well as passenger comfort while sporting the kind of storage that owners need.

The R3X is a performance variant of the R3 which promises a more dynamic driving experience for those who want it.

Rivian’s announcement press release notes that the R2 and R3 will come with two battery sizes with the larger of the two promising more than 300 miles of range and a 0-60 mph acceleration of under 3 seconds for the quickest configuration. All three models will feature DC fast charging with NACS and CCS chargers supported while self-driving capabilities will be offered via 11 cameras and five radars.

In terms of pricing, the R2 is expected to start around $45,000 while the R3 will be priced cheaper than that although pricing information isn’t yet confirmed. Rivian did confirm that the R2 is available to reserve today with deliveries expected in the first half of 2026. Those who want the R3 or R3 X will have to wait a little longer, however.
