Report: 65-Inch TVs New Favorite For North American Living Rooms

Whether you want a huge TV to dominate your room or a smaller one to disappear, there is no arguing that great content looks even better when it’s nice and large. With that in mind, it’s perhaps not at all surprising that research firm TrendForce’s recent data suggests that 65-inches is the most popular choice of TV in North American homes.

The research suggests that the ever-falling cost of such huge TVs is the reason for the increase in size. 65-inch TVs are said to have fallen around 25% during the last year, which is a huge drop, and one that has seen customers rushing out to pick up a larger TV.

TrendForce says one of the big reasons for the reduction in price is the ongoing trade war between China and the United States. Many manufacturers stockpiled TVs in the United States ahead of an expected increase in tariffs to 25%. That increase never came, leaving manufacturers with huge stock levels that needed to be moved. As a result, they lowered prices.

We’d love to know how close people are sitting to those 65-inch sets and what kind of content they’re viewing, too. With displays that large, you’re very likely to be sat so close that a good 4K image is very noticeable compared to a poor one, let alone 1080p. We suspect the majority of people with 65-inch TVs aren’t picking these things up for the best home cinema experience, though, and are merely taking the opportunity to fill their walls with as much screen as possible.

Honestly, we can’t blame them one jot.
