Real-Time AI Image Creation Is Coming To WhatsApp

WhatsApp might be where you go to send all your memes to your friends and family, but now it’s also going to be the place that you go to generate new AI images, apparently.

Meta is now rolling out a new real-time AI image generation beta for WhatsApp users across the United States.

According to The Verge, new images will be created as soon as you start typing in a chat with Meta AI. You’ll then see how the image changes the more you type which really sounds rather trippy, but we’ll need to see it in action before we can pass judgment. The example given does sound pretty great, though.

In the example shared by Meta, a user types in the prompt, “Imagine a soccer game on mars.” The generated image quickly changes from a typical soccer player to showing an entire soccer field on a Martian landscape. If you have access to the beta, you can try out the feature for yourself by opening a chat with Meta AI and then start a prompt with the word “Imagine.”

Meta also reportedly confirmed that its Meta Llama 3 model can now create better, sharper, and higher-quality images and is also now better at dealing with text, too. Notably, the report also notes that the Meta AI can generate animations that can then be turned into GIFs as well.

Real-time image generations via the Meta AI service is also available to those in the United States via the Meta AI website, although it’s surely only a matter of time before a global availability is also announced.
