Pod2g Gives Progress Update On The Upcoming Untethered Jailbreak [Update: With Video!]

It was only a few days ago when i0n1c tweeted to the world that he had jailbroken the new 3rd-iPad running on iOS 5.1.1, which is the latest release of iOS to date.

And now, famous iOS security researcher Pod2g has revealed to the world via Twitter that he has managed to jailbreak the new iPad running on iOS 5.1 – fully untethered. For those of you who don’t know, last week, Pod2g showed off untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak running on iPhone 4 too.

Pod2g further elaborates that he is “stabilizing the payload” method, after which he will try to jailbreak the new iPad on the latest iOS firmware, which is 5.1.1. If all goes well, then we should hear good news from Pod2g very soon.

The new iPad, was surprisingly jailbroken on the day of launch, not once, but multiple times by different devs! And from time to time we’ve been hearing a lot from the dev teams regarding the status of the jailbreak, but so far, we haven’t seen a public release of any sorts which can jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the new 3rd-gen iPad on the latest firmware.

With Apple constantly improving and changing the architecture of the chips in their latest devices, the dev teams involved are surely having a hard time jailbreaking them. Discovering new exploits in firmware is getting harder too with each new release. Users boasting A4-based iOS devices have been in good luck so far, with tethered jailbreaks being available almost immediately when the latest version of iOS is pushed out to public.

While there is still no ETA on the new jailbreak yet, looking at all the progress made, it shouldn’t be too long before it is released. It’s best that the necessary tools are tested out properly by the devs before they are released to the public, we don’t like our iPhones, iPads and iPod touches with grey icons on the home screen now do we?

Those users who haven’t updated their new iPad to iOS 5.1.1 are highly advised not to update at any cost, until Pod2g gives us the green light.
