We've been waiting for it for quite some time now, and it's even been brought forward on a couple of occasions, but the official Steve Jobs biography is now on sale, worldwide.
We love iOS 5 here at Redmond Pie, and one of its top additions to an ageing mobile operating system is Notification Center, Apple's new home for all the messages and push notifications we all receive.
If you happened to be watching the dross that is X Factor on UK television last night, you might have noticed some odd teasers for what appeared to be a smartphone, though they were so short, it wasn't entirely clear.
iOS users take screenshots for granted. The feature, as far I can remember, was included in iOS 1.0 (back then known as iPhone OS) and allowed users to capture whatever was going on on their screen. These screenshots could then be used for a variety of purposes, one of the most popular uses being for reviewing apps on blogs. Google’s Android OS will get this feature with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it releases next month while Windows Phone 7 users have to resort to taking photographs of their screens with a separate camera.
A new Cydia package called “SemiTether” jailbreak for iOS 5 is now available on BigBoss repository which basically helps reboot tethered-jailbroken iPhone and iPod touch without having to plug in your device into PC or Mac. This is second best thing to having an untethered jailbreak. The only one downside to it is that it doesn’t allow you to use Safari, Mail, Cydia, and jailbreak apps installed on your device.
While Apple is admittedly adding new features, and tweaking old ones as it goes about its business of bumping the old iOS revision numbers, there are still one or two things that are AWOL.
Got multiple family members but only one iPad? Congratulations, you are facing what is called a first world problem and the good thing is, there is a solution for it.
One of the most exciting and interesting aspects of iOS 5 is no doubt the addition of a new way of handling notifications, called Notification Center.
While Google has seen undoubted success with its Android smartphone operating system, it has seen much more limited success when trying to branch out onto tablets. If the tablet market has proved to be a difficult one to crack for the search giant, then it's probably safe to say that Google TV is what some may call an unadulterated failure.
Apple has frequently, and often unjustly, denied users of older iterations of devices certain new features when the software updates come around. Although the reason is always cited to be hardware frailties unable to cope with the new software, it's often just a mean ploy to get consumers paying for the latest model.
