Satya Nadella Announced As New Microsoft CEO; Bill Gates Steps Down As Chairman Of Board [VIDEO]

Ben Reid·February 4, 2014
In what will undoubtedly be the biggest news story of the day in the technology industry, Microsoft has announced that Satya Nadella will be taking the helm as the company's next CEO. The outgoing Steve Ballmer announced his retirement back in August of last year, and since then, there has naturally been quite a bit of speculation regarding who would fill these rather large shoes. Now Nadella, who has been with the Redmond-based software maker for 22 years, becomes only the third CEO in the company's near 40-year history after co-founder Bill Gates and Ballmer.

Facebook Celebrates Its 10th Birthday With A Personal ‘Look Back’ Video For You

Ben Reid·February 4, 2014
With Apple having recently thrown together a video clip to celebrate the 30th birthday of the Mac a couple of weeks back, Facebook has done likewise after hitting a landmark of its own. For yes, despite the fact that it feels like the social network has been around since the Internet began, Facebook is now ten years old, and naturally, there's a nostalgic clip for every single member providing a scrapbook-like take on their lives from signup to present day.

How To Rename Messages Thread In Stock iOS 7 App

Ben Reid·February 4, 2014
Instant messaging apps are ubiquitous, but although we all have our favorite third-party utilities such as WhatsApp, Skype, and others, the stock Messages app for iOS still gets plenty of use. This goes a long way to explaining why we have currently such a large count of tweaks being made specifically for Messages, and while there are swathes of great, powerful, and robust tweaks for this very purpose within Cydia, sometimes, we only want to make a subtle alteration here and there. MessageRenamer7 falls squarely within this category, allowing you to tidy up your list of messages by renaming them to whatever you like.

Dell Ad Mistakenly Shows A Notebook PC Running Windows 8 And OS X [VIDEO]

Ben Reid·February 4, 2014
Dell is one of the foremost manufacturers of desktop computers, notebooks, monitors, and other such peripherals based around computing. In recent years, it has tried with a notable amount of gusto to tap into the hybrid market, with some success. But in an ad for its latest laptop-plus-tablet, it makes the cardinal sin of showing both Windows 8 and OS X at the very same time. With a simple sideways gesture, the user seems to move from the Start Screen to a Mac app, and although there are ways of running both of these operating systems on one machine, Dell certainly didn't intend to market this fact to the world.

How To Add Live Weather Widget On iOS 7 Lock Screen

Ben Reid·February 4, 2014
The Cydget tweak, released by Cydia creator Saurik, has long since offered a novel way for jailbreakers to widgetize their iOS lock screens, and with support for iOS 7, other developers have been hard at work updating and creating widgets for the masses. iOS 7 LockScreen Weather is one such Cydget theme, and although there are no prizes on offer for those managing to guess what it does, you may instead be surprised by how elegant it appears when installed.

iPhone 5c Catches Fire In 14-year Old Girl’s Pocket, Receives 2nd Degree Burns

Ben Reid·February 3, 2014
We hear of many unfortunate incidents where people come to harm or property is damaged when tech products spontaneously combust, but very rarely does it happen to Apple gadgets. Unfortunately, one 14-year-old girl discovered that the perceived safety and quality assurance that comes with the bitten-apple logo isn't an exact science, as the loud pop of her pocketed iPhone 5c, followed by smoke billowing from her trousers, dramatically proved. Luckily, the student was unharmed.

Apple CEO Tim Cook Visits UAE, Are We Finally Getting An Apple Retail Store In Dubai?

Ben Reid·February 3, 2014
Apple, like most companies at the top of their game, is always seeking ways to expand its business. Recently, we've seen a concerted effort from the Cupertino-based outfit to capitalize on emerging markets like China and India, and just this week, CEO Tim Cook has been spotted sizing up some of the major shopping malls in the United Arab Emirates. As well as checking out authorized resellers such as the Virgin Megastore at Al Wahda Mall, Ciij also took a mosey on down to Jacky’s electronics store at the Dubai Mall, which has naturally fuelled speculation that the company plans to build a retail store of its own in the notably affluent region.

Download U2 ‘Invisible’ For Free On iTunes; Each Download Will Generate $1 For Charity

Ben Reid·February 3, 2014
Apple has teamed up with the Bank of America to help boost donations to its RED campaign in the fight against AIDS. The collaborative effort, which has also drafted in the musical tones of Irish rock band U2, sees the Bank of America pledging one dollar for every download of U2's new song "Invisible" on iTunes, and since the song is free from Apple's online music store, it should help the charity pick up some much-needed capital in the fight against one of the world's deadliest diseases.
