Accessory maker Performance Design Products has partnered with PlayStation to create a whole new remote control for the PS4. Dubbed the Cloud Remote for PS4, the new controller is a standard remote control, but with a cloud-based element that allows it to be easily programmed to control additional devices.

According to a blog post shared by PDP SVP of Marketing, John Moore, the new controller will automatically detect devices connected to a PS4 and then be able to control them wirelessly.

On top of that, there will be a new cloud-assisted technology that will be used for manually programming the remote control if so required.

Moore says that the Cloud Remote “makes it simple to find the button you’re looking for—and you can reach all essential controls under one thumb” with features including:

  • Includes controls for power, input, and volume for TVs
  • Hassle-free Cloud-assisted technology for programming remote
  • Connects via Bluetooth to control your PS4 system
  • Access all essential controls under one thumb with a sleek and compact design
  • Features the most important buttons for navigating system menus and apps

The Cloud Remote will be available for $29.99 with pre-orders now available. Anyone who does pick one up will also receive a free 30-day trial of the PlayStation Vue Core plan, giving them access to 65 channels of live TV from top networks like ESPN, FX, AMC, Cartoon Network, NFL Network & MLB Network.

We’re going to reserve judgement on this thing until we get to test one out because we’re just not sure anyone is crying out for a Bluetooth PS4 remote control that can also control their TV. Maybe we’re wrong.
