New Apple Watch Ultra With Bigger microLED Display Tipped For 2026 Launch

Apple will reportedly launch an updated Apple Watch and move the display manufacturing over to microLED technology in time for the 2026 release, according to a new report.

Apple had been rumored to have designs on using microLED technology in a future Apple Watch for some time, and now a report by TrendForce claims that the stars have aligned for that to happen in 2026.

As part of the upgrade, it’s thought that Apple will also increase the size of the display on that particular Apple Watch by around 10%.

TrendForce’s Senior Research Vice President, Eric Chiou, analyzed Apple’s progress in adopting new display technologies during the display technology session. He mentioned that the next-generation Apple Watch panel would use Micro LED as the display technology, with a size larger than the current Apple Watch Ultra at 2.12 inches.

The current Apple Watch Ultra has a display that measures 1.93 inches, for comparison.

The move to microLED technology is something that Apple has been working on for years and it will allow for improved colors, better viewing angles and, importantly for a watch, improved brightness. That could be a huge deal for ensuring that an Apple Watch Ultra is easier to read even in direct sunlight.

With this all set to take place in 2026 we can likely expect that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will remain largely unchanged next time out, at least in terms of the display technology used.
