New Apple Intelligence Siri Features Pushed To iOS 19

Apple users waiting for big Siri upgrades in iOS 18 will have to wait a little longer. Apple has confirmed to Daring Fireball that some of the Apple Intelligence-powered Siri features, originally expected in an iOS 18 update.

The company says these improvements will now roll out “in the coming year”, though Reuters has also confirmed that we may not see them until 2026, as part of iOS 19.

At WWDC, Apple previewed a more powerful and personalized Siri, capable of understanding context, seeing what’s on your screen, and working across apps.

Here’s what’s coming, albeit just not as soon as we thought:

  • Personal Context: Siri will remember things from emails, messages, and files to help with everyday tasks. You’ll be able to ask things like, “Find the email where Eric mentioned ice skating” or “What’s my passport number?”
  • Onscreen Awareness: If someone texts you an address, Siri could add it to their contact. Looking at a photo? Siri will be able to send it for you.
  • Deeper App Integration: Moving files between apps, editing photos and sharing them, or even sending an email draft without leaving your current app—all will be possible once these features launch.

Initially expected in iOS 18.4, reports now suggest they might not even make it into iOS 18.5. Apple has confirmed they’ll roll out over the next year, but with Reuters now reporting a 2026 timeline, the wait could be longer than expected.

In the meantime, Apple has already improved Siri’s conversational skills, added ChatGPT integration, and introduced Type to Siri.
