Kodi, the super popular media player and management system is getting ready to move onto version 19, and that means that a new development codename is needed.
The last codename to be used was v18 Leia, and now the Kodi team has confirmed that we can look forward to v19 Matrix.
Coming up with that codename was apparently a complicated process, with a collection of names put forward by the Kodi community.
That community came up with a slew of pretty great code names beginning with the letter “M” with the Kodi team then picking a final choice from that list, which included:
- Magneto
- Mars
- Marvel
- Marvin
- Matrix
- Megatron
- Merlin
- Metropolis
- Mordor
- Morpheus
So, which do you choose? The Kodi team needed to vote.
So we did, and “Matrix” won the vote. And then all hell broke loose. Some team members argued we should be less predictable and geeky, that we could use some out-of-the-box thinking, choose something completely different, etc. What ensued was truly horrific. Geeks cursed each other, pizza boxes got thrown, beer was spilled, perfectly-formatted CSS insults flew, moms’ basements destroyed all over the world. I mean, spilled beer! Utter madness.
In the end, they settled on Matrix, and so we have it. We’ll be keeping an eye on the development of Kodi v19 Matrix in the coming months, and we must saw we’re definitely fans of that name. Now, bring on the new features!
