Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware with blackra1n

George Hotz (aka geohot), the kid who was the first to unlock the original iPhone back in 2007 and then iPhone 3GS in July of this year is back! This time he is the first one to release jailbreaking solution for the new iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware for all devices through his new tool called blackra1n. blackra1n is a software tool which can jailbreak (not unlock) all iPhone’s (iPhone (Edge), iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) and iPod touch’s (iPod touch 2G and 3G) running on firmware version 3.1.2. blackra1n is currently for Windows only, a Mac version of this app can be expected soon.

So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

Follow the steps below to jailbreak all iPhone’s and iPod touches on OS 3.1.2:

Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS: Do NOT upgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n if you want to keep your unlock as doing so will result in upgrade of your baseband which will make it almost impossible for you to unlock.

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes (download link given below).

Step 2: You will now need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes. Download link for iPhone Firmware 3.1.2 is given at the end of the post.

Step 3: Download blackra1n for Windows (download link at the end of the post).

Step 4: Start blackra1n app. If you are on Windows 7 or Vista, run the app with “Windows XP Compatibility” mode by enabling it from the “Properties” tab to avoid any errors during the jailbreak process.

Step 5: Click on “make it ra1n”:

Step 6: Let the app do its thing and wait for the phone to automatically reboot.

Step 7: You should now have “blackra1n” in the list of applications on your iPhone. Run “blackra1n”, download Cydia and let it install it.

Step 8: Finally reboot your iPhone. Voila! You should now have fully jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch running on firmware 3.1.2.

  12. For iPod Touch 3G, after it reboots with the ‘Connect to iTunes’ screen, run blackra1n a second time. This will restart the iTouch completely hacked.
    NOTE:
    This process has to be repeated everytime you reboot the iTouch. Good Luck…

  15. hey all, please help me out.. i have a full internet connection- and it states so, but on my blackrain application it doesnt show cydia, rock or icy.. do i need a new version or what? please help me out

  19. You can't do anything about it right now. It's in recovery because you have the 3.1.2 software. You just have to wait it out. And don't turn it off. the battery can last a long time.

  20. I tried blackra1n on my iphone and it won't go beyond step 5. It just hangs and restore by itunes has to be implemented. Is there a missing step that needs to be done?

  22. I can't download this progam becaus every time i do. It says that an error has occured. and now it will now allow me back. And yes, i do have the update version on Itune for my iphone… Please advise….

  30. i hit make it rain after downloading it in recovery mode not seeming to go anywhere just has a itunes logo with a cord going to it on my iphone. what do i need to do help

  33. hi, i downloaded black rain for my iphone, clicked “make it rain”, saw the icon on my phone, but when i try to go any further than that when i tap the black rain application, i get an error message saying “please check your internet connection”. this happens WHILE the phone says i have full internet signal. it wont allow me to complete the jailbreak. PLEASE HELP!

  34. amanda , just make sure you have a wifi around you then turn your wifi on ,then go to blackra1n and downlaod snow ..it should start search for signal

  48. about the unlocking problem with the 2g iphone.try this:this work for me 11/13/09 iphone 2g 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n. after bootneuter i had to install afc2add from cydia so i could ssh into iphone, and diskaid trial for my computer to access the root menu through usb. next i went to the bottom menu root>private>var>root>library and made a copy of the lockdown folder to my desktop(just for safety reasons). next i removed the lockdown folder from device(some web sites keeped saying to replace it with another which you could download but that wasnt working for me so i just had to remove the lockdown folder from device and close disk aid). rebooted iphone and it work with my t-mobile sim. hope it helps
