Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware with blackra1n

George Hotz (aka geohot), the kid who was the first to unlock the original iPhone back in 2007 and then iPhone 3GS in July of this year is back! This time he is the first one to release jailbreaking solution for the new iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware for all devices through his new tool called blackra1n. blackra1n is a software tool which can jailbreak (not unlock) all iPhone’s (iPhone (Edge), iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) and iPod touch’s (iPod touch 2G and 3G) running on firmware version 3.1.2. blackra1n is currently for Windows only, a Mac version of this app can be expected soon.

So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

Follow the steps below to jailbreak all iPhone’s and iPod touches on OS 3.1.2:

Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS: Do NOT upgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n if you want to keep your unlock as doing so will result in upgrade of your baseband which will make it almost impossible for you to unlock.

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes (download link given below).

Step 2: You will now need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes. Download link for iPhone Firmware 3.1.2 is given at the end of the post.

Step 3: Download blackra1n for Windows (download link at the end of the post).

Step 4: Start blackra1n app. If you are on Windows 7 or Vista, run the app with “Windows XP Compatibility” mode by enabling it from the “Properties” tab to avoid any errors during the jailbreak process.

Step 5: Click on “make it ra1n”:

Step 6: Let the app do its thing and wait for the phone to automatically reboot.

Step 7: You should now have “blackra1n” in the list of applications on your iPhone. Run “blackra1n”, download Cydia and let it install it.

Step 8: Finally reboot your iPhone. Voila! You should now have fully jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch running on firmware 3.1.2.

  1. I have the exact same problem as you, and the screen shows the iphone plug pointing twds the Itunes icon….but i dunno if it is rebooting or if i need to do anything??

  4. If u update using itunes then u can’t jail break your phone just yet . This is what Cydia says ” If you upgraded to 3.1.2 without using pwnage tool to do so you will NOT be able to unlock your phone at this time ,and maybe forever after ” . So what in the hell does all of this crap do if it doesn’t unlock your phone ?

  5. if I reset network, the phone will not boot again, I have to do a full restore in itunes again to make the phone work, lots of folk have the same issue, so what is the fix for this?

  12. my phone wont turn on. it shows the apple logo and then after about 3 minutes the apples loading symbol shows up, freezes and then after about 3 more minutes it blanks out as if you reset you phone and then automatically restarts. its done this about three or four times now. i reset the phone now and its off. but ive done this before. if i turn it back on itll just do the same thing. i have no idea what happened. but it isnt working. i actually didnt upgrade though so im using the 3.1 instead of 3.1.2
    coul this be why? if so how do you fix it?

    Then, I didn't load Cydia by mistake, but continued with deleting blackea1n icon as per information and rebooted. Icon disapperead. Now i'm trying to istall Cydia of course and I cannopt How to do ? I did execute once more Blackra1n EXE file from windows, it worked once more, but I cannot get blackra1n's icon on iPhone. Please help !

  15. i downloaded blackra1n put it on my phone (iphone 3g) then downloaded the sn0w thing only and deleted the blackra1n symbole off my iphone, when i tried to put the blackra1n thing back on my phone it says that its done but there is no symbole on my phone for me to open up and download the other thing that i need to jailbreak it can someone help me ???

  22. i followed the pwnage tool step by step to upgrade the firmware. my phone is unlocked jailbroken 3gs. when i get upgraded im stuck at a screen saying connect to itunes and emergency call screen. what happenned???

Everytime i try to jailbreak it goes all the way till its time to reboot and then it just get stuck on a blank screen and never reboot even after i run the program again. i tried a newer version and a older version of the ipod touch and get the same thing for both so where the H@@# i'm i going wrong or is this crap for real or really that easy and simple.   28. Worked perfectly. Downloaded, updated, and restored into 3.1.2 firmware using iTunes. Blackra1n under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode) worked fine. Cydia installed perfect. Easiest jailbreak I've ever done, took less than ten minutes for everything.

  30. i have had this program for a month now and had no problems at all.i love this program!!! if ur having problems its cause you did it wrong and also its not for people who dont know what they are doing ….just download blacka1n and u will have no problems dont worry about anything else like downgrading cause this does it all! ;c)

  34. can anyone help me I downloaded the blackrain softwarre and I deleted it before I could download Cydia and noe I run the download and it says it is complete and there is no Icon. Can any one help me Now I am unable to use my Iphone with the T-moblie sim….Please help…

  38. Does anybody know what they mean by the baseband? I have jailbroken my iPhone 3G sucsesfully before and now my sister has an iPhone 3GS which i am trying to do as well.I am not looking to unlock it so it can be used with differnt sim cards i just want to be able to download cydia and apps for free.   48. Open itunes do not do nothing with itunes and open again blackra1n.exe then take off the cable before iphone restart.
