Instagram CEO Explains Why The Service Doesn’t Have An iPad App

The iPad has been around for almost ten years and it just so happens that that’s also how long the iPhone has had an Instagram app. But there’s no native app for the iPad and that continues to be one of the most frustrating things about Instagram. But don’t expect that to be rectified any time soon.

We’re saying that because Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said as much during an “ask me anything” on Instagram. According to Mosseri, there just isn’t enough time or enough engineers to get an iPad app out the door. Basically, Instagram doesn’t see it as an important enough platform.

When Mosseri was asked about an iPad version of Instagram, he said that the company “would like to build an iPad app”. But unfortunately, that’s where the good news ended. He went on to say that Instagram only has “so many people” and “lots to do.” He also said that an iPad app “hasn’t bubbled up as the next best thing to do yet.”

So, when will it bubble up? That’s anyone’s guess. But considering turning an iPhone app into an iPad app must be one of the easier developer projects around, it’s clear it must be way down the pecking order at Instagram.

So yeah, don’t expect that Instagram app for your iPad any time soon.
