GTA 6 Release Date Now Set For May 2026 After Delay

If you’re waiting for Rockstar Games to release Grand Theft Auto VI, you definitely aren’t alone. It was set to be the biggest game release of 2026, but in a move that will shock few people, the game has now been delayed until May 2026.

The move came after a message was posted to the Rockstar Games website saying that the company wants to thank everyone for their patience while development is underway.

Unfortunately, that came after it also confirmed that a delay was needed to ensure that it could make GTA 6 as good as possible.

We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

The statement says that Rockstar Games looks “forward to sharing more information with you soon,” and with the new release date more than a year away, we can hopefully expect to learn plenty more as we get closer to the release.

As expected, the news of a delay has not gone well, both among gamers and the stock market. Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two, saw its stock price fall 8% in premarket trading following the announcement.

Grand Theft Auto IV never had an actual 2025 release date, but we were expecting it before the end of the year. The first trailer for the game arrived in December 2023 and development had been underway for a long, long time before then.
