Google Hints At iOS 18 RCS Support For iPhone

Apple confirmed in late 2023 that it intends to bring RCS support to the iPhone in 2024 but it didn’t say specifically when it intended to do it.

Many had assumed that it would be part of the iOS 18 software update that is expected to debut later this year, and now Google appears to have essentially confirmed as much.

In a now-deleted reference on Google’s messaging web page, as spotted by 9to5Google the company said that Apple will bring RCS to the iPhone this fall.

Apple has announced it will be adopting RCS in the fall of 2024. Once that happens, it will mean a better messaging experience for everyone.

If that’s correct, Apple will likely add RCS support via the iOS 18 software update that is expected to ship to iPhone owners everywhere this September.

If Apple follows its usual release cadence the company will unveil the iOS 18 update at the WWDC event that has now been confirmed for June 10. Then, we can expect the update to be released to developers in beta form immediately before it undergoes a months-long beta program. Finally, Apple will then release the update in September, likely alongside the new iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

RCS support will allow iPhone and Android phone owners to send and receive rich messages including media between each other without having to use a third-party app like WhatsApp or Telegram.
