Cydia 1.1.11 Released, Here’s What Is New! [Updated]

Updates to the Cydia app aren’t especially frequent, but the substantial length of time between releases allows its developers to pile on the optimizations. Today’s Cydia update – the first major bump since the Evad3rs team finally breached iOS 7 a few months back – packs the usual spate of bug fixes along with a shiny new icon in-keeping with the overall aesthetic of iOS 7, and you can grab the new release via your Cydia app right now.

The crux of the update is speed, speed and more speed. But while everything should feel a great deal snappier and slicker than ever before in the new 1.1.10 update, the Cydia team has also made several notable alterations to the user interface for better functionality.

Sources, for example, which houses those all important repositories storing your favorite tweaks, gets its own spot on the tab for quick access. This new feature also provides more information on what is being processed as packages are being refreshed, with a loading progress bar keeping you in the loop.

Many long-standing issues, such as the error message notifying users that they’d “exceeded the number of package names this APT is capable of,” have now been remedied, and having given the new version a quick run-out just to see how it runs, we’re pleased to confirm that it’s noticeably smoother than the previous edition of Cydia.

This isn’t the very first Cydia update since iOS 7’s release and subsequent jailbreak, of course – version 1.1.9 gave the tweaking app a flatter, cleaner look and feel back in December – but this is the first notable, significantly-improving release we’ve seen for quite some time.

Grabbing the update is simple. Just fire up the Cydia app, navigate to the “Changes” tab, and refresh. At this point, you’ll see the new Cydia alongside any other tweaks that need updating. Just hit the “Complete Upgrade” button, and you’ll be good to go.
