Crackgate?: Apple Vision Pro EyeSight Display Randomly Cracking For Some Users

The Apple Vision Pro headset hasn’t even been on sale for a month yet but some people are starting to report strange cracks that could wind up costing hundreds of dollars to fix.

The crack, as people have started to share on Reddit, appears to be in the same place in each instance and is around the center of the external EyeSight display.

Or more accurately, the glass that protects it. Apple Insider reports that a number of people have posted about the issue, although not tons of them — the relatively small number of devices in use might be the reason behind that, however.

As for what’s happening, one suggestion is that things are getting a little too warm during charging.

Each account claims they left the Apple Vision Pro connected to the battery pack and stored it overnight. Conjecture believes that charging with the soft cover on while in the Travel Case may create a problem with overheating the glass, leading to expansion and a crack at the weakest point.

A repair of the cover glass costs $800 without AppleCare but we would imagine that Apple is most likely going to cover the cost for those who are impacted here. Assuming there is no indication of the Apple Vision Pro being dropped, this is clearly an issue not of the owner’s making.

Apple is yet to comment on the situation and likely won’t unless the problem becomes much more widespread than it currently appears to be.
