Official YouTube iOS App Adds Split View And Slide Over Support

It may have taken far too long, but Google has today updated the YouTube app for iOS, bringing with it support for two very specific iPad features. With Google having been lambasted for its tardy support of iPad multitasking in its productivity apps, YouTube was also one that was suffering from a lack of iPad-related updates, but today's new version of YouTube sees both Split View support and Slide Over capabilities make an appearance. Unfortunately though, Picture-in-Picture (PiP) has still been left out.

The continually twisting and turning rollercoaster that is the Apple versus the FBI encryption case has taken yet another unexpected turn. In a surprising turn of events, the FBI has officially filed a motion as part of an attempt to vacate the scheduled court hearing that was all set to take place in a Californian court Tuesday. In the motion, the FBI claims to have found another way to gain access to the iPhone used in the San Bernardino shootings, and in turn, no longer requires the assistance of Apple to break encryption and provide a backdoor into the iOS platform.

Apple's Spring 2016 event may have been one of the shortest Apple events in recent history, lasting just 64 minutes, but the company managed to pack a number of important announcements and releases into that short time frame. A number of researchers have discovered a vulnerability in Apple's iMessage platform, which is a particularly relevant discovery giving the current emphasis being placed on encryption within mobile devices. The research team from John Hopkins University have discovered a loophole in the iMessage protocols that allows them to decrypt videos and photos that have been sent via Apple's proprietary messaging platform. The vulnerability has been reported to Apple and has been fixed as of iOS 9.3, which is slated for public release later today.
