It's that time again, where both Apple and Google choose an app to be made free for 7 days, with the app then returning to its previous price once the offer is over. Over the months and years we have seen some truly excellent apps represented as part of Apple's free App of the Week, with Google putting its food into the water just recently. Both Google and Apple have announced the apps that they chose for their respective app store offers this week, with both likely to prove popular.
Everyone loves a freebie. It doesn't matter if you're rolling in cash and can afford to splash out on luxuries, or if you're at the opposite end of the scale and need to stringently monitor outgoings in order to get through the month. The idea of getting something for free is a song that we can all sing and dance along to. It's an especially nice feeling when the app that's being offered for free once had a $4.99 price tag attached to it, which is exactly the case right now as Apple is dishing up the Green Kitchen cooking app as a free download via its own Apple Store app.
Multitasking on iOS in its current state is mundane at best, but with iOS 9, Apple is lifting the bar a little higher on the iPad, bringing true multitasking to the fore when the firmware goes live for the general public this fall. The problem with Apple's feature is that it is exclusive to iPads only, this is where a new jailbreak tweak called Mirmir comes in.
A lot of popular tweaks make fair and extensive use of Ryan Petrich's Activator package, which is currently now available on the developer's own repo in Cydia, updated in beta form for iOS 8.4.
The popular jailbreak tweak Springtomize 3 has just been updated with full support for iOS 8.4, and it is immediately available to download right now from the Cydia store.
Viber, the popular instant messaging app for iPhone has today been updated with full support for the iPad, making the app much more useful as a cross-platform messaging solution. With plenty of competition to be found in the space, not having an iPad app was a glaring omission on Viber's part. Not any longer, with Viber now amongst the long list of apps that have both iPhone and iPad support in a single binary. If you already have Viber on your iPhone, the new update also brings support for the iPad as well.
odysseusOTA lets you downgrade iPhone 4s, iPad 2 to iOS 6.1.3 firmware without SHSH blobs from any latest version of iOS.
Thinking about throwing yourself back on that couch this weekend and hunting for some quality iOS apps on the App Store? As always, we have your weekend dose of paid apps gone free covered right here.
With iOS 8, Apple, for the first time, allowed third-party keyboards on its platform that worked system-wide, not just within specific apps. In the new days of this freedom, we saw almost all major players from the Android ecosystem pop up on the iTunes App Store as well, and then (naturally) the trend dwindled down. Today, however, we see somewhat of a revival, with Disney releasing its 'Disney Gif' custom keyboard for iPhone and iPad, which allows sharing of Disney and Pixar themed GIFs directly from the keyboard into the app of your choice.
