The lead developer of the popular CynaogenMod has announced that he and his team are working on upping privacy to users by introducing a Run in Incognito Mode feature for apps. Steve Kondik, better known as Cyanogen, is the figurehead behind the famous CyanogenMod custom firmware for Android, and has told of how using the incognito feature will be as simple as ticking a checkbox. Details after the jump!
When looking into purchasing a new smartphone, consumers look at a wide range of variables before making a final decision. This can vary from person to person, with some looking for a great camera and high quality display, while others are more focused on longevity, with removable batteries and microSD expansion. Whatever your personal points of consideration may be, most of us can unite on the fact that we want our devices to be able to withstand the day-to-day wear and tear it will inevitably go through. If you are considering a purchase of the hottest property in the mobile industry right now, the Samsung Galaxy S4, will surely want to know whether it can hold its own in the big bad world, and the video stress test below gives a general idea of how rugged the current darling of the Android space is when faced with various situations.
I have been testing Samsung Galaxy S4 here at Redmond Pie, and having spent quite a few days putting it through its paces, I’m going to be offering my critical assessment. The latest in an immensely popular series, it’s easily the most sought-after handset of the year thus far, and if you’re currently on the fence with regards to whether the device warrants your hard-earned cash, you’ll hopefully be a little closer to deciding after reading this hands-on review.
TeXTe for Android is a novel little app which allows you to set a specific code word, which in turn can be shared with important contacts and when your device is on silent, TeXTe will detect the word within the message, and a loud alarm will ring loud and clear, ensuring you don't miss anything you may need to know.
The gaming world has leant heavily on the console as a primary medium of enjoying the latest and greatest titles, and with the recent emergence of mobile-based action, companies are now trying to bring the mass of quality apps back to the traditional console format. BlueStacks, the company behind the popular Android emulation app for Windows and Mac, recently announced its GamePop console aimed at competing with the likes of the OUYA by allowing players to enjoy Android-based titles on their TV, and to add to that, it looks as though support for iOS games will also be added to the GamePop's repertoire.
Facebook has long since been the world's most visited social network, and rather than just offering the official app alongside a separate Messenger service, the social network has sought to go to town with its deep integration with the introduction of the Facebook Home APK for Android, which arrived two months back along with some other interesting features. Opinion has been mixed hitherto, with the new implementations having experienced quite a few teething issues on Google's fragmented platform, but today, Zuck's team has released a significant update to both Facebook and Facebook Home for Android. Details after the break.
In the light of the announcements of the Google versions of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4, the talk about Sense and TouchWiz and their associated bloat seems to have petered out. But while an AOSP update is still on the cards for current owners of these two industry darlings, consumers still have to content with this annoying added baggage. The Galaxy S4 16GB only actually offers 9.15GB of storage once you factor in the extra apps, but a new update for German users of the Korean company's flagship smartphone brings a little, and I mean very little bit of respite.
BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) has hitherto been an exclusive flagship feature of the BlackBerry platform, but with the company having recently announced its decision to allow the instant messaging service to fly the nest as it were by crossing platforms to both iOS and Android, it now looks as though BBM for iOS and Android may just be a few weeks away now. According to a tweet sent out by T-Mobile UK, which was later pulled, it's going to be hitting the App Store and Google Play Store on June 27th, and with the once-dominant BlackBerry brand struggling even after its big overhaul, this move will certainly help get the name back into circulation.
Although we spend billions of dollars protecting our beloved gadgets with cases, wallets and covers, there's certainly something of a perverse pleasure in watching them get completely annihilated by fire, lava, or simply cracked beyond recognition in a drop test. The Nexus 7 is revered as one of the best value tablets on the market right now, and one YouTuber decided to see what the ASUS-made slab would look like after interaction with a .50 Cal round. The result, as you will see below, was not particularly surprising.
We initially had the Samsung Galaxy S4. Then came the more compact and sleek Galaxy S4 mini. They say that good things always come in threes and that certainly seems to be the case as Samsung has today announced the Galaxy S4 Active smartphone to accompany the previous two releases of the S4. The Galaxy S4 Active is described as being the "perfect companion for exploration, activity and adventure" and will offer all of the technical power of the flagship Galaxy S4 but packed into a robust and ingress protected case for outdoor use.
