Bowers & Wilkins Announces Formation Flex AirPlay 2 Speaker

You can never have enough AirPlay 2 speakers to choose from, and now Bowers & Wilkins has joined the fray with its own. It’s called the Formation Flex, and it looks pretty nice. We’ll have to wait and see how it sounds, though.

The speaker has plenty going on inside. There’s the aforementioned AirPlay 2 support, which is enough to get excited about already. But then there’s Bluetooth, WiFi, and Spotify Connect also included. B&W obviously wants people to pick up more than one speaker, and it has tech build in that makes multi-room audio easier and better.

We don’t have an exact US price for the new speaker, but the smart money right now is on a $500 figure. That makes it more costly than the Apple HomePod that this thing is obviously set to go head-to-head with, but it’s a nicer device to look at and it might sound better, too. We’ll have to wait for some reports on that before we can make a judgement.

We also don’t yet know when the B&W speaker will be available. We’re told that it’s going to be at some point later this year, but beyond that, your guess is as good as ours.

If you’re in the market for a new AirPlay 2 speaker and aren’t desperate to pick one up right now, this might be worth waiting for.
