Apple has been in the cloud computing game for quite a while now, but while iCloud has allowed iOS and OS X users to keep their devices and files in perfect sync with one another, it certainly hasn't competed, feature-wise, with some of the more versatile offerings like Dropbox. This looks set to change after today's announcement of iCloud Drive, with cloud-syncing app support that spans iOS, OS X and even offers support for Windows.
It’s live. OS 10.10 Yosemite Developer Preview 1 download links are now live. Earlier today at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple finally took the wraps off OS X 10.10, which we've now established will be called Yosemite. Naturally, the Cupertino company has followed the announcement up by releasing a Developer Preview of this new build, and below, we'll be pointing out the numerous ways in which you can get your hands on it.
With June 2nd now creeping up on us, we're just few hours away from some significant revelations from Apple at WWDC 2014. But what are we to expect from this annual show-piece? Here, we discuss what might, and what almost certainly will be announced at WWDC, along with a few hopeful stabs in the dark for good measure.
Gesture-based interaction is on the rise, and as well as the more common, touch screen-based gestures, engineers have long since been looking at other ways for us to communicate with our digital devices using swipes, taps, and other such movements. Kinect is a prime example of this advancement in action at end user level, and now, a group of individuals from Sweden have come up with something equally cool for iPhone. The Fuffr case - yes, that's its actual name - utilizes the space around the iPhone when the device is laid flat, and with the potential to move all of an app or game's controls away from the screen, could revolutionize the way we use our mobile devices in general. Think of it as Leap Motion, except for iPhone!
A short while ago, we brought to you a video highlighting a bunch of reasons why Apple's iPhone 5s is perceivably better than the Galaxy S5. In order to keep things fair, here's a further clip outlining some of the features of the S5 that, it could be argued, renders Samsung's flagship the more appealing option than its Apple-made counterpart.
As you'll almost certainly be aware of by now, Apple's WWDC 2014 is set to begin on Monday, and all of this week, preparations have been made within the Moscone Center venue in San Francisco. A traditional location for WWDC and numerous other Apple events, the interiors of the exhibition hall have been decorated to welcome the siege of developers embarking upon next week's event, and now, we're catching our first glimpse of some iOS 8-related signage.
With the Worldwide Developers Conference now almost upon us, and as such, it should come as little surprise to see designers and general Apple enthusiasts getting their last-ditch concept ideas in before the lock. From what we've gathered, iOS 8 will include several new features and apps, including Healthbook among other goodies, but while we don't anticipate system-wide widget support complete with live tiles, this hasn't stopped one designer from bundling it into his latest concept.
One of the continued criticisms of the Apple iPad is that there's no support for multiple users. Unlike the iPhone and iPod touch, which are predominantly personal devices used by one owner, iPads are often utilized by an entire family or group of friends. Thus, it would be ideal if each individual user could have their own login through which to tailor their own settings, apps, and general experience, and that's exactly what a couple of concept makers have tried to achieve with this neat iOS 8 design.
We've caught a few glimpses of Android Wear during the past few weeks, and LG, which will partner for one of the first Android Wear devices in the G Watch, has also been teasing us with snaps of its first smartwatch effort. Now, for the first time, both software and hardware have been videoed together as one, and as such, we get to see what Google's watch-focused flavor of Android looks like when running on the forthcoming G Watch.
