As technology enthusiasts, most of us are fascinated by the booting of operating systems on devices that the software mightn't necessarily be familiar with. There's a massive market for software products that facilitate, say, OS X on a PC and likewise, Windows on a Mac. Console OS, which seeks to bring a genuine Android experience to Intel-based machines, has announced its intention to bring the infrastructure to the Surface Pro line-up, including the Surface Pro 3.

Android's open-source nature is a bit of a double-edged sword in many respects, for although it's customizable to the nth degree, it's also much more susceptible to malicious intrusion when compared with the likes of Apple's iOS. On a regular basis, we hear of new, cunning schemes designed to attack smartphones and tablets running on Google's flagship mobile OS, and today, we've encountered a particularly alarming security hole that could potentially help a hacker relieve you of vast mounds of cash.
Apple rolled out iOS 8 beta 3 only yesterday, and although we got the usual spate of bug fixes and performance enhancements, the Cupertino giant also took the opportunity to introduce a couple of noteworthy new features. As we reported some time ago, the latest beta of Apple's upcoming firmware includes a neat feature allowing T-Mobile U.S. users to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi, and now, some tweaks to the Health app have also been spotted.
With the forthcoming iPhone 6, Apple is expected to break from tradition in a number of key areas. Notably, the display will see the biggest size increase since the original handset back in 2007, while the overall design will draw much of its inspiration from the iPod touch and iPad Air / iPad mini. Another tidbit we've continually heard over the past couple of weeks is that the front panel will be comprised of sapphire glass, as opposed to the Gorilla Glass from Corning that Apple has long since utilized. Following a leaked video yesterday showcasing the panel's ability to bend, another clip has today appeared offering a glimpse of how the front shell may cope with scratches.
Apple has continued to push the boundaries in its efforts to pack high-end technology into unfathomably small housing, but while we continue to marvel at the likes of the MacBook Air and iPad mini with Retina display, we've also been impressed with how Apple continues to thin-out the iPhone. This long-standing trend is set to continue with the next-gen model, with some suggesting that the iPhone 6 will be as slender as 6mm, but even though early adopters will likely be impressed by the svelte nature of the device to hold, the slimline finish will also mean that battery capacity will only see a modest improvement.
After the monumental success of Grand Theft Auto 5, you could forgive Rockstar Games for taking its foot off the gas somewhat and merely enjoying the moment, but then again, we know just by playing the immensely enjoyable title that Rockstar is a company that simply doesn't, by nature, rest on its laurels. Having remained fairly coy with regards to an upgraded, tweaked, and generally better version of GTA 5 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC, the company has now put the doubts to rest by making it official, and as you might expect, the gaming world has dived straight in to try and gather as many details as possible.
As it often does on a Monday, Apple threw out the third beta of its upcoming iOS 8 software a short while back, and although the changelog mentioned the usual bug fixes and general performance enhancements, the Cupertino giant has also delivered a little treat for those rocking an iPhone on T-Mobile U.S. As of iOS 8 beta 3, those subbed to the popular carrier can enjoy Wi-Fi calls, and apparently, the clarity of said calls is far greater than on a standard 3G / 4G cellular connection.
Some iOS and OS X users have noted of a minor glitch pertaining to the use of the stock Calendar, resulting in the wrong holiday dates being shown for certain regions. Thus, folks in countries like Lithuania are seeing the holidays of nations like Mexico and Hong Kong, and although this rather confusing scenario seems to have affected multiple users running on iOS 7.1.x as well as others on Mac, Apple has reportedly noted of the issue and will come through with a fix in a forthcoming software update.
Nokia, which was recently acquired by Microsoft, has long built great smartphones, particularly those of the Lumia variety. But while the market has been enticed by the sleek, funky designs and top-notch rear-facing camera technology, most have been put-off by the Windows Phone OS, which is nowhere near as evolved as, say, Android.
iOS 8 beta 3 download is now live. The new beta 3 includes the usual spate of bug fixes and general performance enhancements. There are one or two new features to boot, and we’ll surely discover a few more as we become better acquainted with this new release in the coming hours.
