While all of the attention right now might be on the upcoming iPhone 17 devices that will surely launch in September, Apple is looking at something new.
The 20th anniversary iPhone isn’t all that far away, and a new report suggests Apple has a big change coming.
According to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch the 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027 to celebrate the event in style. The report didn’t go into detail, but it did say that a major shake-up is on the way. Notably, that will include an iPhone that will ditch the bezels entirely to create an all-glass device.
The company is preparing a major shake-up for the iPhone’s 20-year anniversary, including a foldable version and a bold new Pro model that makes more extensive use of glass.
This was followed by a new report from ET News which states that Apple suppliers are working on a “4-sided bending display technology.”
4-sided bending display technology are being developed, so it is noteworthy whether they will be finally commercialized […] UDC is to hide the camera under the screen, and the four-sided bending is the implementation of a full screen without a bezel.
The idea of no bezels whatsoever seems odd, if only because it would likely be a nightmare to make and a problem in terms of durability. With that in mind, it seems most likely that there will indeed be bezels but that they will be positioned in such a way that they are invisible from the front of the device.
The report also goes on to say that Apple will use a new solid-state battery for the device, allowing it to store energy at a higher density and, in turn, making for a longer-lasting battery life. Something that is sure to be vital if the 20th anniversary iPhone is likely to be particularly thin, like the rumored iPhone 17 Air.
