Apple Releases New macOS 14.4 And visionOS 1.1 Release Candidate Updates

Apple has today released new macOS 14.4 and visionOS 1.1 Release Candidate updates to developers ahead of what is likely to be a public release later this week or early next week.

The macOS 14.4 update isn’t the biggest in terms of new features, although users can expect to see new emojis for use across their Mac.

There are also changes to the Podcasts app including episode text that can be read and searched in full. The update also adds support for the new M3 MacBook Airs that were announced earlier today. Finally, Safari will gain an option to only show icons for websites in the Safari Favorites bar for the first time.

The visionOS 1.1 Release Candidate will bring some notable new features to the Apple Vision Pro including support for Mobile Device Management, a feature that could be a big addition for those using the headset in a business environment. The Messages app will also gain iMessage Contact Key Verification for a more secure experience, while there are also updates to Persona, the virtual keyboard, and more.

Specific changes to the keyboard include a more accurate cursor positioning improvement while the Mac Virtual Display feature will now be more reliable when trying to sync and connect to a Mac via the Apple Vision Pro.

Registered developers can download both new Release Candidate updates now, but we’d only suggest installing them on devices that are not mission-critical.
