New iPhone Ultra, 20th-Anniversary Info Leaks

Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September, with its first foldable iPhone, dubbed iPhone Ultra, also in the cards.

Now, a new report has shed more light on the latter September announcement as well as Apple’s plans for 2027.

Starting with the iPhone Ultra, leaker Fixed Focus Digital reports that the foldable iPhone has overcome an issue with production scaling that had the potential to cause a delay. As of the end of July, the report explains, iPhone Ultra production plans were finalized. This should ensure the iPhone Ultra goes on sale alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September.

Moving on to the 2027 iPhone, expected to celebrate the device’s 20th year, a separate report claims that the celebratory model will be as thin as the current iPhone Air while returning to a glass construction. The report also claims the iPhone will have a larger vapor cooling chamber than existing models.

It’s unclear what the glass construction reference means, although it may be related to the iPhone 4 series of devices that had glass backs. Current iPhones use a combination of glass and aluminum.

The thinness of an iPhone Air also makes for an interesting 20th-anniversary iPhone. Whether that could mean Apple has addressed the iPhone Air’s battery limitations remains to be seen, however.
