The Google Maps iPhone app could soon also include support for Google’s Gemini AI, according to a new report. The feature will bring the Gemini Google Maps support to CarPlay.
This is all according to a new report by MacRumors, which claims to be based on new code found in the Google Maps app. The Google Maps app already includes Gemini support, but that doesn’t extend to Apple CarPlay.

Using the standard iPhone app, users can use Gemini to “Ask Maps” and get answers based on questions about locations and potential destinations. The feature is accessible via the Hey Google wake phrase or by tapping the Gemini icon in the Google Maps app.
Now, it looks like similar functionality is also coming to Apple CarPlay.
Gemini integration would allow CarPlay users to get detailed directions and information from Gemini. Strings in the app suggest users will be able to tell Gemini to navigate to a specific location after agreeing to new Terms of Service in the iPhone version of the Google Maps app.

Apple began to allow apps to offer AI chat access with the iOS 26.4 iPhone software update. AI chatbot companies have since been enabling CarPlay support, allowing drivers to interact with their AI hands-free.
While the Gemini functionality hasn’t made its way to the Google Maps app via CarPlay yet, this report suggests that could change sooner rather than later.
