People have wanted to be able to run macOS on their iPads ever since Apple’s first tablet launched in 2010. But it could soon happen, assuming you’re willing to jailbreak.
9to5Mac reports that the future of the Hackintosh could be on the iPad, rather than running macOS on PC hardware. That’s after developer Steve Troughton-Smith posted the progress on Mastadon.

“Apple may not bring macOS to iPad, but it looks like we’re getting to a point where people can hackintosh it together on a jailbroken device anyway,” the developer writes.
The posts come from Duy Tran, who has been sharing proof of macOS running on an iPhone, albeit with issues. It’s flaky right now, but shows built-in apps like Activity Monitor and Disk Utility working. Xcode is also shown off, too.
9to5Mac details how things work:
The work-in-progress documentation for the effort is hosted on Duy Tran’s GitHub page under the project name MacWSBootingGuide. The state of the project is very much in early development, however, so you’ll want to know what you’re doing to a certain degree before trying this at home.

You do need to be jailbroken, though, and that’s an issue. The iOS 18.3.1 software is supported by Palera1n, and there are ways to unlock some iPhones and iPads. But you still need to take the chip your device has into consideration, so it’s more complicated than might be worth the hassle, unfortunately.
