Download: iTunes 12.6.2 For Windows And Mac Is Out

You can now download iTunes 12.6.2 for both Windows and Mac. Here are the details on what’s changed in this release of iTunes.

Those venturing into the Mac App Store today will already have noticed that they have a new version of macOS to download – Sierra 10.12.6 – but there is yet another update that should be downloaded as well. It’s perhaps less exciting to most of us, but it’s there regardless.

We are of course talking about iTunes, with version 12.6.2 now available for download from the Mac App Store if you are using one of Apple’s computers, or via apple.com and Apple Software Update Utility if you are on a Windows PC. Unfortunately, anyone hoping for big sweeping changes for the ageing media app will be disappointed.

According to Apple’s own release notes the changes here are minimal at best, with minor app and performance improvements the order of the day. Neither of those things sounds to us like Apple has made iTunes into something we would want to use for longer than a minute or two at most, so forgive us for not being too excited about the whole thing!

This new update follow iTunes 12.6.1 which arrived back in May with, you guessed it, few changes included. At this point we just wish Apple would ether kill iTunes off completely and replace it with something that works or simply refresh it in a way similar to how iPhoto morphed into Photos, dragging the app into the 21st century in the process. With so much development going into iOS, macOS and even watchOS though, we suspect it is simply a case of there not being enough engineers to go around inside Apple.

You would think that a company with so much cash on hand would be able to place a wanted ad for someone to fix the mess that is iTunes though, wouldn’t you?

Maybe iTunes 12.6.3 will do the trick.
