Apple might have built ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence, but that doesn’t mean that everyone has ready access to it.
Older iPhones don’t support Apple Intelligence, and those using really old iPhones can’t even use the ChatGPT app, either. Or, they couldn’t until now.
A new app from a 17-year-old developer means that owners of the iPhone 3GS and similar handsets can now use ChatGPT just like everyone else.
9to5Mac reports that the app uses the OpenAI API to work, so it should function in much the same way as the official ChatGPT app does on newer devices. There is even support for uploading images, too.
ChatGPT for Legacy iOS is a client for older versions of iOS that allow you to interact with the OpenAI API in many ways. ChatGPT for Legacy iOS supports most things that you already know from modern chatbot apps, such as thorough text conversations with context, image analysis by ChatGPT and image generation. Your conversations are also always saved automatically and can always be returned to whenever you want to.
All you need to run this app is an iPhone running iOS 6 or later, meaning anything from the iPhone 3GS and newer will work just fine. The catch? You’ll need a jailbroken iPhone to install ChatGPT for Legacy iOS because apps for iOS 6 can no longer be released via the App Store.
