The New Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Beats Another Tesla Record

There’s a new king in town after the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT EV managed to go from 0-60 mph in just 2.1 seconds and broke the record at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, making it the fastest and most powerful road-legal Porsche ever thanks to a 1,092HP rating.

The new Taycan is an upgrade over the previous model thanks to a new thermal management system and a heat pump to try and improve efficiency. There’s also a bigger 105kWh battery, too.

In terms of performance, the new Porsche managed to do a lap of Weathertech Raceway in just 1:27:87, a new record that beat out the Tesla Model S Plaid’s 2020 time of 1:30:30. However, there’s a catch — the price.

While a Model S Plaid will set you back $89,990, buying the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Wessach Package costs a lot more — you’ll hand over $230,000 to get your hands on one which is a huge sum of money.

The Tesla is also faster to 60 mph with a 1.99-second time, but there’s no denying that the Porsche just looks special in a way that few other brands can manage. It has a sporty look that goes above and beyond the standard Taycan or Turbo S models, but the addition of the Weissach Package removes various components including the rear seats to save a total of 157 lbs.

That’s a lot to remove in the name of speed, so we’re not sure that we will see many of these cruising the strip any time soon.
