Activision’s FPS Call of Duty: Black Ops has made a record $650 million US Dollars in sales in just 5 days since its launch, setting a new entertainment industry record. Even we at Redmond Pie got hold of the Xbox 360 version of the game due to its sheer awesomeness.
October figures from the NPD group states that the Xbox 360 has been the best selling console in the U.S. for the fifth month straight, with an impressive 325,000 units sold, compared to the PlayStation 3's 250,000 and the Nintendo Wii’s 232,000. Microsoft boasts total sales of 3.5 million units to date having been the only console to sell more units each successive year.
Research firm IDC has published a press release in which they have predicted that Microsoft’s motion sensing Kinect will outsell Sony’s motion-sensing controller Move by half to a full million units.
By now, most of you would have heard about the upcoming Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone. Internally codenamed as Zeus, the device is currently being tested on Android 2.2, as can also be seen in one of the images below. Android 2.3 / 3.0 Gingerbread will however be the shipping operating system when the device is out at the end of 2010, or early 2011.
If you’re a big fan of 3D movies and own a PlayStation 3 console, then there’s a big treat waiting for you! Sony has just pushed firmware version 3.50 for PlayStation 3 which now adds the ability to playback 3D Blu-ray movies right on your PS3.
We previously posted an entire guide on how to Jailbreak the PlayStation 3 with an Android Phone and also that iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd confirmed that the hack would soon be coming to iPhones. Well guess what, it’s here folks! The PSGroove / PSFreedom has been ported over to jailbroken iPhones but the interesting thing is that it is not by the same team which MuscleNerd talked about. It’s actually by a hacker who goes by the name of NTAuthority! and he has used OpeniBoot method which was previously used to port Android on iPhone 2G, 3G and iPod touch.
It was only last week when we reported about a USB Modchip called the PS Jailbreak for the PlayStation 3 which enable users to create backups of original games on the internal or any external drive connected to the PS3. One of the biggest complain has been the high price tag ($169), considering that it could go to waste if Sony cripples it in the next firmware update. And so as a result, Chinese clones of PS Jailbreak USB Modchip have started to pop up already which costs relatively less (around $20 to $30) than the original thing.
Few days ago we reported about a new USB Modchip called PS Jailbreak for PlayStation 3 which enables you to dump games off original discs on the internal or any external drive connected to PS3. Spanish site Elotrolado has a full blown review, along with instructions on how you can use it to create backups of your PS3 games. This of course proves that PS Jailbreak works for real.
PlayStation 3 has been in the market for quite some time now, and it packs lots of power for both gaming and entertainment purposes. Released back in November 2006, it has since then been one of the most praised consoles in gaming history. There are now talks going on in the wild about Sony already working on the next-gen PlayStation 4 (or PS4). Release date is expected to be somewhere between late 2012 to 2014, and that the development of next-gen games for this console has already begun.
In a surprising move, instead of taking on Nintendo DS line of portable gaming, Sony takes a shot at Apple and its iPhone / iOS gaming system by calling it “that isn't built for big boy games, that is built for texting your grandma and calling your girl”. Seriously Sony? you are comparing a full-fledged portable gaming console to a multi-functional smartphone? Something is surely not right at Sony, they are probably thinking that they have missed their opportunity at cell phone gaming market with a possible PlayStation Phone. And so now they want us to believe that paying for old PSP collection at $10 is better than paying for App Store games on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
