Sony's PlayStation 3 had a reasonably good week this Black Friday weekend, with the Japanese company announcing that 525,000 consoles were sold this holiday period across the United States.
The Sony PlayStation Vita may have staggered a little bit since launch, but owners of the handheld device will be pleased to see that version 2.0 of the Vita firmware is starting to land on the gadget after being pushed by Sony and is being classed by some as the biggest firmware upgrade for the Vita to date. Sony has also maintained that they wanted the Vita to be about more than just portable gaming, with the intention being to provide users with a converged experience that included gaming, productivity and accomplished web browsing. This new 2.0 update certainly adds to the power of the Vita.
Although it never looked in any doubt, it's now official; Call of Duty: Black Ops II has once again delivered the biggest entertainment launch of the year for Activision, and with sales in excess of half a billion dollars in the first 24 hours alone, it's safe to say the gaming sphere's most powerful franchise has not completely lost its touch.
Now Halo 4 and Call Of Duty: Black Ops II are done and dusted, perhaps the next most anticipated title will be Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V. Up until recently, the developer has been dropping bundles of screenshots and images intermittently, but with pre-orders having officially begun and a Spring release date now confirmed, the level of excitement for the next version of GTA is reaching fever pitch.
Officially set to be released next year, we can't help but get excited every time we hear little snippets of information regarding Grand Theft Auto V. The highly anticipated release in the GTA franchise has been under development for quite some time, but apart from the few teasing screenshots, promotional images released by Rockstar Games, we haven't really had a great deal to get our teeth into. GTA IV left a few hardcore fans feeling a little let down with the experience, but it certainly looks like Rockstar are back on top of their game with the latest offering.
The world of eSports is continually growing, with Starcraft possibly the biggest of the lot. Activision has always wanted the Call of Duty games to be part of the eSports movement, but with its proliferation of run and gun gamers, the gameplay and level of competition has always just fallen short. With Call of Duty: Black Ops II however, Activision is hoping to change all that.
Anyone with even a passing interest in the world of videogames will know all about Grand Theft Auto. It's the game that has caused more than a little controversy over the years, with some even calling for it to be banned thanks to its rather mature content. Thankfully, that's not happened and the fifth release of the game is on its way.
With PlayStation 3 sales slowly decreasing year over year, Sony appears to be preparing key developers for their next generation PlayStation console.
There are many popular channels on YouTube, and many relatively unknown folk have made a name for themselves on the Google-owned viral video hunt. With that said, few have managed to generate the hype of Korean rapper / pop star PSY, whose "Gangnam Style" song has eclipsed anything the web has ever seen. Although first uploaded in September, it didn't really go viral until late August-early September, and has accumulated almost half a billion views on the way to becoming the fourth most watched - and most liked - clip in YouTube's history.
Unless you've been living in a cave, or some other indeterminate, closed-off environment, you'll no doubt be aware that Call Of Duty: Black Ops II is scheduled for release next month. In order to whet the appetite of the many millions of ardent CoD fans worldwide, developers Treyarch has released yet another trailer for its upcoming installment, which you can catch right after the jump!
