Enable Full Multitouch on Motorola Droid

Taimur Asad·December 19, 2009
Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless in US doesn't support multitouch functionality in most apps even though the hardware is fully capable of running it. This is probably due to the US iPhone patents as the upcoming Google Nexus One phone will also have no multitouch functionality in browser and Maps app. The European version of Motorola Droid, called Motorola Milestone is fully capable of pinch to zoom and tap functionality just like the iPhone is.

Android 2.1 for Motorola Droid Leaked

Taimur Asad·December 15, 2009
Folks over at Sholes.info have managed to port Android 2.1 on Motorola Droid. You can go ahead and try it now but the hacker has a warning placed on his site which states that the current Rom release is unstable and might brick your phone. Earlier this month, Android 2.1 Rom was leaked for HTC Hero with the latest version of Sense UI, fully optimized to run on this latest version of Android.

M Asad·December 9, 2009
Time Magazine today has published its list of “Top 10 of Everything” in which they have picked up Motorola Droid on Verizon network as the winner for their “Gadget of the Year” award. iPhone 3GS which was released in the same year as Motorola Droid could only manage 4th place behind Droid, The Nook and Dyson Air Multiplier. This is what Time’s had to say about Motorola Droid.

Google Goggles for Android in Action on Droid

Taimur Asad·December 8, 2009
Google today has announced the public availability of Goggles which can let you search the web using images, without having to speak or write anything. You can simply take a picture with the camera on your phone, Goggles will then analyze and process your image, and then it will return a relevant search results page from Google. Currently, Goggles identifies landmarks, books, logos, business cards, places, wine bottles and works of art. Support for things like food, plants, cars, animals and suggestions of move in a chess game will added in future releases.

Xperia X10 vs Motorola Droid

Ali·November 24, 2009
The impressive rate at which new mobile phones are entering the cell phone arena sometimes creates a state of confusion for consumers about which one to get. More often than not, they find themselves in a situation, where they are unable to decide which mobile phone to go ahead with. With Sony Ericsson set to unveil Xperia X10 early next year, it is surely going to bring some competition within the Android camp. Motorola Droid is at the moment at least the Android phone of choice followed by HTC Hero and the likes.

Apple Targets Verizon Droid in New iPhone Ads

M Asad·November 24, 2009
Verizon with its “iDont, Droid Does” advertising campaign has been ruthlessly targeting Apple iPhone, including Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs personally with its recent ad in Sports Illustrated magazine last week. These Droid ads clearly shows how desperate Verizon is to pitch its phones against the mighty iPhone. The Big ‘V’ has got the two Droid phones and is trying too hard to promote them. How far this ad war is going to benefit them is a bit too early to comment on. But one thing that we all were sure off was that Apple is going to respond to them sooner rather than later.

Verizon Droid Ads Targets Apple and Steve Jobs

M Asad·November 16, 2009
In continuation of its Droid Does advertising campaign from last month, Verizon in pursuance of anti Apple campaign, has launched yet another ad war against iPhone, which is totally Droid centric, but this time a little personal on Steve Jobs as well. Although the ad is Droid specific, it fails to express or tell any strength or specialty of Droid feature wise, and is rather totally focused on highlighting and targeting the weakness of iPhone. Shown below is a page printed in the recent edition of Sports Illustrated magazine with the following text.

Motorola Droid Grabs 25% of Android US Internet Traffic at Launch

M Asad·November 14, 2009
It’s been only a week since Motorola launched its top of the line Droid phone on Verizon in United States. This new generation of CDMA mobile has quickly gained a higher popularity graph, and was well received against the HTC Droid Eris also launched on the same day. Simultaneous launch of the two Droid phones by Verizon on same day wasn’t really a coincidence, but done intentionally to attract different type of audiences.
