It's the story that just won't go away, but it seems once again we're being forced to speculate over the possibility of Apple working on, and possibly even getting ready to release a television.
Earlier today, we reported that Apple is cutting its iPhone 4 orders ahead of the launch of a new iPhone model. Based on the information previously available, we speculated that the next iPhone would be a relatively small upgrade. Now, reports are indicating that in fact it will actually be a major one, likely to be known as the "iPhone 5".
Last week, we showcased a method that allows anyone without an Apple developer account to run iOS 5 beta on iPhone, by bypassing Apple's activation wizard. For one of our readers, known as @sunflash93 on Twitter, this method wasn't working on his iPod touch (because of no emergency call functionality like iPhone 4), so he was kind enough to tell us about a new one. This has been tested on the iPod touch, although the tipper informed us it might work on the iPad just as well.
Ever wished you could download online videos from your iOS device? With Tube Downloader, this $1.99-App, you can browse videos from major video sites and download them on the fly. Despite its name, this app offers no support for YouTube, since downloading videos is against the site's terms of service, but it works fine with other video sites such as Vimeo or MetaCafe.
Apple patents are known to reveal technologies and features the company might be working on, or has at least looked into. This new patent, submitted in December 2009, depicts a location-based social network that allows users to locate people nearby that share the same interests. Daniel Amitay has developed an iPhone security App known as Big Brother Camera Security, which relies on the simple concept of capturing a picture of anyone who enters the wrong passcode when unlocking the device. Weirdly enough, the app also tracks passcodes (on an anonymous basis of course) for statistical purposes, which led Amitay to write a rather amusing blog post with the top 10 most used passcodes. And yes, the most used one is 1234, how did you guess?
Sn0wbreeze, a well-known jailbreaking tool for Windows, now has support for iOS 5 Beta, which was jailbroken recently using Redsn0w for Mac. As of yet, only tethered jailbreak is possible, meaning that you have to connect the device to a computer when powering it on, in order to boot it into a jailbroken state.
iOS 5 is known for its system-wide Twitter integration, but according to a developer who's tested the Beta 1 out, the new iOS also integrates with other social networks, such as Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn and yes, even MySpace.
According to sources, Google is working on its own version of iMessage, the exclusive instant messaging client that's built into iOS. Details are scarce at the moment, but it would make perfect sense for Google to jump on board, like other competitors have.
