Rather than simply releasing a flagship device and resting on its laurels, Samsung always seems determined to release as many spin-off versions as possible, and on a day that has seen the Galaxy Note 3 family extended with the Note 3 Neo and Neo LTE+, the Korean company’s other marquee handset has been presented with yet another color option. The Galaxy S4 “Black Edition,” while cutting a dark figure next to the many other colors and variations of the sought-after smartphone, also boasts a fake leather rear cover like the Note 3, so if you’ve been waiting for this combination of a jet-black S4 and faux leather finish, your wish has finally been granted.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been the biggest smartphone release of the year, having shifted 10 million units in its first month on sale. Those kinds of numbers were to be expected, though, and as ever with Samsung, the story doesn’t end there. As well as the camera-focused Galaxy S4 Zoom and the ruggedized dust and waterproof model for those careless / overly careful folks out there, the Galaxy S4 Active, the Korean company is also poised to release a Galaxy S4 mini, and if leaked benchmarks are to be believed, the device will pack in a Snapdragon 400 processor.

Samsung today accidentally gave the world a sneak peak at a smartphone that we’ve all pretty much known was on the way, and that phone is the much talked about Galaxy S4 mini.

When Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 as the replacement for their massively famous Galaxy S III smartphone, the availability of a smaller, less expensive model in the vein of the Galaxy S III Mini was almost guaranteed. While Samsung has been keeping mum about the possibility of a Galaxy S4 Mini, it seems we might have all the confirmation we need.

In order to heighten the appeal to its flagship Galaxy S III, Samsung released the aesthetically similar, scaled-down version S III Mini late last year. Those who take a close look at a devices tech specs will have noticed that, in actuality, the similarities between the Galaxy S III and the cheaper, smaller offering end at the design and name, but that hasn’t stopped the Mini from yielding strong sales since. Never one to baulk at a tried-and-tested success, Samsung looks set to offer a similar product in follow-up to the forthcoming Galaxy S4, with reports today suggesting the Galaxy S4 Mini will arrive almost immediately after its flagship counterpart.

Samsung has only just walked off the stage in New York, but the Galaxy S4 is set to be old news already, especially if you’re shopping on a budget or would prefer something smaller than a small ship.
