Steve Jobs: A Biography by Walter Isaacson went on sale yesterday and is, according to one report, slated to become the top-selling book of the year.
The news comes from Reuters – a trusted international news agency – in the form of a report published recently which cites a quote from an Amazon representative who states that the way Steve Jobs’ biography is currently selling, it could “very likely” become the online bookstore’s top-selling book for the year 2011.
"The way things are trending, it could very likely be our top-selling book of the year," Amazon spokeswoman Brittany Turner said in a statement.
For the uninitiated, Steve Jobs: A Biography is an authorized biography written by Walter Isaacson on the life of Steve Jobs. The book is based on over forty interviews conducted by Isaacson with Steve Jobs and “well over” a hundred interviews with Jobs’ family, friends, employees, rivals and adversaries over a period of two years.
The book wasn’t all that hyped until the world woke up to news of Steve Jobs’ death on October 5th, 2011. Since then, demand for the biography has skyrocketed. According to one estimate (made on October 6th), pre-orders for the book increased by 53,555%. The book was originally slated for a launch in late November, but was brought up to a October 24th release, which was yesterday.
We’ve learned a surprising number of new things about Steve Jobs from his biography. In a post we published on October 21st, we talked about how Steve Jobs said that he would anything to destroy Android, “because it’s a stolen product”. Another report revealed that Jobs had “finally cracked” the idea of an integrated television set (think: an HD display with Apple TV media receiver built-in) which would seamlessly sync with other devices and iCloud to provide the best-possible home entertainment experience.
Sony is already in talks with publishers of Steve Jobs’ biography to acquire feature rights to it. Sony Pictures, in case you don’t know, is the studio behind the critically acclaimed movie The Social Network (related to Facebook’s rise as a social networking giant) which was based on a book called The Accidental Billionaires. If Sony Pictures’ track record is anything to go by, their movie on Steve Jobs would definitely be something to watch.
If you haven’t bought it yet, Steve Jobs’ biography can be picked up in eBook format from iBooks or Kindle from the links we’ve embedded here.
