Following months of rumors, the new Galaxy S25 lineup of smartphones is official after Samsung announced three handsets at its latest Unpacked event.
The new phones follow a familiar pattern and include the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ as well as the new range-topper, the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
All of the new phones have one thing in common though — they’re all about AI, as has become the norm for the smartphone market of late.
The new phones all follow a familiar design language for Samsung’s mid-range to high-end phones and the premium Galaxy S25+ has a new, more rounded aesthetic that is expected to make it more comfortable to hold than the previous bulky one. It’s claimed to be the lightest and thinnest of its ilk while also being more durable than the previous models.
Beyond that, it’s still huge thanks to a 6.9-inch AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate. The smaller Galaxy S25+ has a 6.7-inch display while the smallest of the bunch, the Galaxy S25 has a display of just 6.2 inches.
On the inside, Samsung is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip that’s based on a 3nm manufacturing process. Samsung says that it’s around 37% faster than the previous model in terms of CPU performance while the GPU performance has increased by 40%.
All of this additional performance allows for new AI features including new search features, natural language understanding, and more. There are improved and more speedy photo-editing features and the ability to create GIFs from videos, too. There are a lot more AI features as well, including the Now Bar which offers information throughout the day in a similar way to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.
As you’d expect, these new phones have impressive cameras with the S25 Ultra packing a 200-megapixel wide lens and 50-megapixel 5x telephoto lens. That lens has a 100x space zoom and a 10x AI-powered zoom that is said to offer improved quality similar to that of an optical zoom. 10-bit HDR video recording is included while the usual array of filters and whatnot are also included.
None of this will come cheap, though. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra starts at $1,300 for a 256GB model while the Galaxy S25+ starts from $1,000. The cheapest of the trio is the Galaxy S25 which starts at $800. All of the new phones will go on sale on February 7.
