Porsche Is Testing Its First Electric Boat

Porsche is a name that you probably associate with sports cars and in the case of the Taycan, electric vehicles. But now the German company is turning its attention to electric sports boats. And you can order yours now.

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air might be a mouthful but it’s shaping up to be a monster of a boat. It’s in testing right now, and it looks pretty special in a new report by Electrek.

Interestingly, although the boat is built by Frauscher, it does borrow from an upcoming Porsche EV — the Macan.

The electric boat pulls components from Porsche’s PPE platform, which the Macan will ride on. This includes the electric motor (limited to 400 kW), battery, and power electronics.

The boat will have different drive modes including Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus and each mode will change how the boat behaves. That’s exactly the same as Porsche — and indeed other — roadgoing vehicles and will no doubt be familiar to most people.

The report claims that the boat will have an optimal cruising speed is 22 knots but that Sport Plus will increase that to a limited 46 knots. Range? Around two to three hours when behaving yourself.

As for pricing, if you have to ask you probably can’t afford it. For those who can, it’ll sell for $593,800 when deliveries start to ship next year.
