The road to the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 was anything but smooth, from the beginning of November when Pod2g announced he had found an iOS 5 bug, the journey has been filled with ups and downs and littered with obstacles to overcome. With that being said, the struggle to crack the A5 devices seems to have galvanized the best talent within the jailbreak community, with developers and security researchers coming together to produce an untethered jailbreak iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1.
With the release of the iPhone 4S in October 2011, we also saw the public release of the iOS 5 operating system which powers it. Naturally, registered developers already had their hands on iOS 5 for quite some time, meaning; when the public offering was announced during the 4S keynote, few people were surprised at the operating system’s capabilities. However, putting the lack of surprise aside, one of the largest update to the latest major version of iOS is the way in which it handles and displays notifications.
The iPhone 4S-owning world have been enjoying the many benefits of Siri for over three months now, taking advantage of all of the features which the next generation intelligent assistant provides. Such was the hype surrounding Siri, that we have even seen a number of applications trying to enter the Android Market, trying to pass themselves off as the real thing before being pulled from sale by Google.
If ever, we needed confirmation that the world of jailbreaking is still an alive and kicking community-driven activity, then it sure is. Today we are seeing the revelation that the recently released Absinthe tool, which is used to offer freedom to owners of A5 devices received more than one million downloads in a single day.
It was only last week that Google announced that its social network, Google+, had breached the 90 millions users mark which represented quite a staggering rise in registrations considering that number was closer to the 40 million mark in October last year. We all know however, that a registered consumer base is somewhat different to an engaged consumer based but in the Google+ world; Larry Page reckons that sixty percent of those users use the site daily, with approximately eighty percent being active weekly users.
Not even the two outgoing CEOs of RIM would argue that the company's ill-fated BlackBerry PlayBook tablet was a success. In fact, as far as tech flops go we'd argue that it's right up there with the HP TouchPad.
If the speculation is to be believed, then Apple has plans in place to adopt and support the new 802.11ac specification across Airport base stations, Time Capsules, Apple TV, Notebooks and potentially the company’s range of mobile devices.
I had mentioned in an earlier post that one of the things which I was most looking forward to with the release ofthe iPhone 4S jailbreak was the new and innovative uses for the personal assistant, Siri. Developers have been itching to get their hands on a jailbroken 4S to allow them to test, amend and then release their tweaks and enhancements which will bring more power to the already very functional and intelligent voice analysis software.
Although iPhone 4S has continued to follow the precedent set by Apple’s smartphone legacy, its battery retention rates have left a lot to be desired.
Facebook is super popular. We get it, we really do. What's not to like, apart from, well, you know. All that security and privacy stuff.
