There are some business acquisitions that make perfect sense, some that seem a little strange but are understandable and others that we can see coming from a mile off, but the latest rumor is suggesting that Apple is in the process of acquiring Color Labs Inc. doesn't really fit into any of those categories. Color Labs is the company behind the drastic iOS and Android app called Color that managed to raise a fairly large pot of funding in 2011, but if the reports turn out to be true then it looks like the company executive have found their way out.
Google services and the Android mobile platform are in tune with one another, and as you might expect, the system does an extremely good job at pulling in information from any associated Google account and making that information available throughout system. Nothing is as easy as it should be with all Android devices, and in some instances manufacturers go solo with their bundled software, often overwriting native Google apps or burying certain frequently used apps in layers of settings. For those who want the official Google Calendar experience, it is now available to download on the Play Store.
We were expecting this announcement to pop up at some point this month, and just like clockwork, Google has sent out invites for an Android event which is going to be held in New York on October 29th.
The fabulous Samsung Galaxy S III doesn't need any introduction in the mobile world and is generally regarded as being not only the best Android handset on the market but also the best piece of hardware that the world's largest smartphone vendor has ever produced. In addition to kindly providing the vital bits of information about their self-branded tablet, Microsoft has also taken the opportunity to post a rather informative video to YouTube that gives a behind the scenes look at what is actually involved in developing and manufacturing the Surface. Check out the full video after the jump.
When talking about modern-day, handheld casual gaming, few can claim the kind of success as Rovio's Angry Birds, and what started out as one very simple, very addictive title, has turned into a billion dollar franchise spanning everything from phone cases, audio equipment, plush toys and more. Only recently, Angry Birds Space joined the party as the forth title in a series which has branched beyond mobile onto almost every platform imaginable, and now, Angry Birds Star Wars is almost upon us.
Microsoft's Surface is one of the most sought-after slates to be releasing this year, and as such, one would expect anybody lucky enough to have their hands on one already to be treating it with the utmost care; enjoying a device very few people have even seen in the flesh. Of course, such rules don't apply to Steve Sinofsky - the leader of the team which has created the Surface - and in a rather comical sketch, has demonstrated how the device also doubles up as a rather useful skateboard.
As anybody in ownership of an Xbox 360 (or indeed, a PlayStation 3) will know, the wireless controllers are pretty versatile, and with minimal fuss, can be hooked up to many electronic products besides their respective console boxes. With the Microsoft Surface dropping next week, many were wondering whether the Redmond company's tablet would also support the Xbox's wireless controllers. In a day that has seen snaps of Steve Sinofsky skateboarding on a Surface around the Redmond complex, the software maker has taken another out-of-the-ordinary step in confirming via Reddit that the imminent slab will indeed be compatible with the Xbox game pads.
Although the form factor of the iPhone 4 / 4S was relatively compact and by no means bulky to hold, the recent release of the iPhone 5 has left many consumers amazed at just how much thinner and lighter Apple has managed to go with regards to design. Svelte it may be, but packing in the (improved) technology took a lot of effort, and while Jony Ive and team would have thrown quite a few pieces of paper into the waste-basket in trying to get the radical interior reshuffle to work out, the main manufacturer of the device - Foxconn - also had a few headaches.
We should all know by now that Microsoft is involved in a fairly large launch schedule at the moment with Windows 8, the Surface tablet and the fantastic looking Windows Phone 8 all set for a public release in just over a week’s time. The company will be reveling in the attention that is being lavished on them, but it also means that consumers are starting to take a serious look at the likes of Windows Phone 8 as a viable mobile platform. For those who don't want to make the move from their beloved Android, then a rather nice little Windows Phone 8 styled launcher is now available on the Play Store.
