Samsung's advertising machine was in full flow once again at the Oscars 2014 ceremony, and when a Galaxy Note-snapped picture by TV personality Ellen DeGeneres surpassed the record for most retweets ever in just half an hour, the marketing and PR department of the electronics firm must have felt as though they'd struck gold. Yet, as ever at these kinds of events, the truth tends to reveal its ugly head backstage, and a later snap uploaded by DeGeneres via Twitter for iPhone suggests that, like a seemingly disproportionately high number of celebs, she's in fact an iPhone user.
We've already seen the many ways in which Android can run, process apps and push games on platforms such as Windows and OS X, but from later this year, we may see it make the jump to Windows Phone, in turn creating the very first dual-boot Windows Phone / Android devices on the market. At present, those with an affinity to both Microsoft and Google's respective mobile platforms need to own two mobile devices in order to enjoy using each, but according to The Times of India, native company Karbonn Mobiles will soon begin shipping Windows Phones that also support Google's Android.
The Windows Phone 8 update was, despite a lot of coverage, quite underwhelming in terms of features, especially given how long Microsoft had spent applying improvements. However, from what we've been seeing through leaks and word-of-mouth, the forthcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update will provide the OS with some much-needed rejuvenation, and as well as a whole new Swype-like keyboard, notification center and other such niceties, the next update looks also set to feature Cortana, Microsoft's very own Siri / Google Now incarnate. Today, new screenshots have emerged of Cortana in action.
Samsung really wants you to own the Galaxy S5. Its latest and greatest was unveiled late on during the first day of last week's MWC, and if you weren't already enticed enough by the gold color option and in-built fingerprint sensor, then perhaps the bundle of goodies that the Korean outfit is throwing in with every purchase will tip the balance. With every purchase of the company's flagship, users can claim up to $575 worth of free services, ranging from a six-month Wall Street Journal subscription to 50GB worth of free Box.com cloud storage.
If you're a fan of cheap notebooks running Google's bare-bones ChromeOS and enveloped in Samsung's famed faux-leather, then you might be in luck, for a duo of Twitter photos via Evleaks suggests that a new Samsung Chromebook is on the way, sporting that polarizing finish. The teaser photos, which doesn’t show anything more than the rear of the device, and a Chrome logo atop that Galaxy Note 3-like material, doesn't take Inspector Clouseau to piece the clues together, and with the Korean company having delivered some moderately attractive Chromebooks already, the Galaxy maker looks to be stepping things up a gear.
