iTunes U 2.0 For iOS Released, Here’s What Is New [Download]
Apple’s iTunes U application for the iPad and iPhone has received quite the feature bump, with version 2.0 now available to download. The big 2.0 update was announced last week.
Focusing on improvements that give both teachers and students the ability to do much more via the application, iTunes U 2.0 continues Apple’s push to make the iPhone, iPod touch and particularly the iPad more useful for both those teaching and learning.
There is a raft of improvements in the newly updated app, covering both teachers and students. As far as those doing the teaching are concerned though, additions such as the ability to not just update, but create entirely new courses right from their iPad will no doubt be the headline feature. Being able to create course materials inside apps like Pages, Numbers and Keynote as well as other 3rd party apps and then import the content into iTunes U will also prove popular amongst teachers.
Students will also be fans of this newly updated version of iTunes U too, thanks to it making the task of asking questions of teachers running private courses a more simple process. Other students can also now join in with the discussion, providing answers themselves or posing more questions on the subject.
From the App Store:
Introducing the new iTunes U
Let the discussion begin
• The new iTunes U makes it simple for students participating in private courses to pose questions on the course or any post or assignment
• Other students in the class can jump into the discussion and ask more questions or provide answers
• Teachers and students can keep up with the conversation when they receive push notifications as the discussion progresses
Apple sees the iPad as a real way of getting more of its products into the classroom. With software like iTunes U and the the iBooks Store, Apple is beginning to offer most, if not all of the tools that teachers and students need during their day-to-day activities.
The version 2.0 update of iTunes U is available for download on the App Store and is, as always, free to download.
