iPhone 18 Pro And Fold Could Get A20 2nm Chip With New Design

While the iPhone 17 is still a few months from launch, early details about the iPhone 18 series are already making waves.

According to a new report by analyst Jeff Pu (via GF Securities) which was picked up by MacRumors, Apple’s 2026 lineup, including the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and a possible iPhone 18 Fold, will feature a brand-new A20 chip. And it could be a game changer.

The A20 chip is said to be built using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process, which means it will be even smaller and more powerful than previous chips.

Compared to the A19 (which will use a 3nm process), the A20 could offer up to 15% faster speeds and up to 30% better power efficiency. That could mean faster apps, smoother performance, and longer battery life.

But that’s not all. Pu also notes that the A20 may use a new chip packaging technology called Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM). This would allow Apple to build memory directly onto the chip, along with the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. The result? A smaller chip that performs better, handles heat more efficiently, and leaves more room inside the iPhone for other hardware.

If true, this new A20 chip would be a big step forward, especially for demanding features like Apple Intelligence and multitasking. It might also make the rumored iPhone 18 Fold a more realistic and powerful option.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 series in September 2026. If these early leaks are accurate, the A20 chip could be one of the biggest upgrades Apple has made to its processors in years.
