Apple has long been rumored to be working on finally entering the foldable phone market, and that could see the company change the way it launches iPhones entirely.
According to a report by The Information, Apple will release the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in the fall of 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 models will have to wait until the spring of 2028.
If that sounds strange, it’s because it is. And it’s all thanks to the foldable iPhone. According to the report, Apple will launch the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026, with an iPhone 18 Air also thought to be in the cards.
The 2026 Pro iPhones could also sport some big changes compared to previous models, including an under-display Face ID technology that will remove the need for a cutout as is the case on the current models. There will still need to be a cutout for the front-facing camera, however.
As for the first foldable iPhone, it’s expected to have a 5.7-inch external display with a foldable 8-inch display on the inside. That would make it similar to other flagship foldable phones from the likes of Samsung, OnePlus, and Oppo. It also makes the foldable iPhone akin to an iPad mini, something that could make it a viable alternative for those who won’t need an iPhone and an iPad.
