iOS 26.4.2 Vs iOS 18.7.8 Battery Test: Performance And Battery Life Compared

A new battery test video is out, comparing iOS 26.4.2 and iOS 18.7.8, and it takes a more controlled approach than most quick comparisons you see online.

The test focuses on consistency. All devices were set up the same way before testing even began. Brightness was locked at 25%, auto-brightness was turned off, and everything was connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This helps make sure the results are fair and not affected by random factors.

For the actual testing, the video uses the Geekbench 4 battery benchmark. This tool pushes the processor with heavy workloads to simulate real usage and measure how long the battery lasts under pressure. The results are based on how much work the device completes and how long it takes for the battery to drain.

Two types of tests were used. The first is a full discharge test, which runs the battery from 100% all the way down to 0%. This gives the most reliable picture of overall battery life. The second is a partial discharge test, which runs for up to three hours. It’s quicker, but slightly less accurate.

When looking at the results, higher scores mean better battery performance. If one score is twice as high, it roughly means double the battery performance.
