iOS 19 Could Feature A Gaming App When It Launches This Year

Apple’s expected to announce the iOS 19 iPhone software update at its WWDC event next month, and a new report suggests that it will include an app dedicated to gaming.

The app, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gruman, Apple will add an app that will allow users to launch games as well as browse achievements and communicate with friends.

The app will come preinstalled and will replace the existing Game Center.

The company will preinstall the app on the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV set-top box later this year, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The software will serve as a launcher for titles and centralize in-game achievements, leaderboards, communications and other activity, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans haven’t been announced.

Game Center was originally a standalone app before being rolled into the Settings app, so this appears to be a return to the original concept.

As you might expect, the report claims that Apple will use the new app as a way to heavily promote Apple Arcade, while normal App Store apps will also be featured. We can expect editorial content around titles as well, similar to that already found in the App Store.

Apple is set to announce the new software at WWDC before making an early beta available to developers. The final iOS 19 software update is expected to then be released to the public in September of this year.
